Method of preparation of single-walled carbon nanotubes using cobalt and molybdenum doped mesoporous silica catalysts.
A catalyst that includes mesoporous silica, cobalt and molybdenum is affixed to the surface of a substrate. The catalyst-containing substrate is heated for a preset time and at a temperature sufficient to calcine the catalyst. The calcined catalyst is contacted with a flow of carbon feedstock gas to make a single- walled carbon nanotube.
The methods offer higher degree of control over the orientation, length and diameter of the nanotubes produced.
