  • Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Ohio University

    The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Ohio University has an outstanding faculty with research interests across a wide range of areas. Interdisciplinary programs in bio-analysis, bio-organic chemistry and nano-materials science complement more traditional areas of study in organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, and biochemistry. The department's mission is to provide a quality education to graduate students while pursuing state-of-the art research in chemistry. The objective of the graduate program is to educate and train students to become highly effective and competitive scientists by providing them with the interdisciplinary tools and research skills needed to succeed in their future career. This includes offering a variety of graduate level courses at rigorous levels and maintaining cutting-edge research programs within individual research laboratories.
  • Department of Geological Sciences

    Our department offers strong, well respected, discipline-wide majors programs. We prepare undergraduate students for virtually any career in the geological sciences by requiring or offering a broad spectrum of courses spanning the environmental sciences, sedimentary and paleontological fields, and hard rock geology. We prepare students to be competitive in the job and graduate school markets by encouraging them to take applied courses. The geology job market is one of only a few to grow stronger over the last decade. Thanks to ongoing expansions in the environmental and petroleum industries our alumni are working throughout the United States and abroad.
  • Department of Physics and Astronomy

    The mission of the Department of Physics and Astronomy is to create knowledge through forefront research; to provide students across a range of disciplines with an introduction to problem solving, critical thinking, and basic concepts in physics and astronomy; to prepare our undergraduate majors with a solid foundation in the discipline for use in their subsequent life, work, or advanced studies; and to instill in our graduate students a high level of knowledge and skills that enable them to carry out original research.
  • Russ College

    Providing a learner-centered education to produce well-rounded professionals capable of contributing to the betterment of the world, the Russ College offers undergraduate and graduate degrees across the traditional engineering spectrum and in technology disciplines such as aviation, computer science, and engineering technology and management. World-class research in avionics engineering is an ongoing focus. Strategic research areas include transportation, and energy and the environment, with bioengineering a growth area. Named for alumnus Fritz Russ and his wife Dolores, the college is home of the Russ Prize, the top bioengineering prize in the world.
  • School of Applied Health Sciences and Wellness

    The School of Applied Health Sciences and Wellness is the home of the Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology and Nutrition degree programs. Our academic programs provide excellent classroom and hands on experiences that prepare students for a variety of health care professions. Graduates from our programs provide health care services ranging from assisting clients in preventing disease and injury, proving acute care when needed, assisting in the performance of diagnostic testing in the evaluation of disease and injury states, and providing rehabilitation services once a diagnosis has been determined. Our graduates work in health care environments including: athletic departments, health clubs, clinics and hospitals, as well as other corporate and industrial settings. The strong science foundation that is a part of all of our majors also makes our programs an excellent pathway for preparation for a variety of other professional programs: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Medical School. Our goal is to assist students reach their professional goals.
  • School of Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences houses

    The School of Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences houses the Physical Therapy and Communication Sciences and Disorders programs. Both are nationally ranked and accredited in their respective fields and have significant and valued history at OHIO.
    The Division of Physical Therapy is dedicated to excellence and leadership in preparing future physical therapists with the knowledge, behavior, and skills required to function within the diverse roles of the contemporary health care environment. Our students are prepared to assume leadership roles as physical therapy professionals through autonomous and evidence-based practice, altruism, integrity and ethical conduct, and social and professional responsibility.
    The Gourman Report, which provides ratings of undergraduate programs, consistently ranks OHIO’s Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) program as one of the top programs in the country, and above all of the 11 other programs in Ohio. The curriculum integrates a sequence of arts and sciences coursework with studies on human communication processes, giving students a full, well-rounded education.
